The Olglivie Obituary

We beg your pardon in the delay of this official notice. I had seen Leonard Ogelvie the day before his demise. He often comes into the newspaper offices due to his business as a travel agent. We double checked the facts and found, not only had he died of a sudden illness, but evidently a friend speedily took care of his funeral arrangement. His body was interred today at City Cemetery. Most curious is that a headstone has already been placed at the grave.

We ran many advertisements for Ogelvie's World Tours and the subsidiary business, Leonard Land Travels, where all travel was with on land, by car, bus, or train. He also wrote travel articles for the Sunday addition. A very knowledgeable man.

Since we found no relatives in our brief inquiry and only people who knew Leonard Ogelvie superficially, we shall comment on our experience of this well-thought-of, though curiously private man. His only friend must have been the man who made the funeral arrangements and he left town immediately after the short graveside service.

Our offices have dealt with Mr. Ogelvie for over twenty years. He was always honest, straightforward, and prompt in paying his bills. In his early business days he was often hurried and somewhat abrupt, very focused on establishing his career. A sudden change came over him a few years back and all those working on the paper made note of it. We often noted how relaxed and amiable he became. The sudden adjustment in personality was odd, but none of us felt we knew him well enough to ask what was the pivotal point of his transformation, although we often speculated.

We announce his death today with sorrow. He was a man many would have like to know better. His sudden passing has brought home a truth we would all benefit from observing. A simple question, a few words of conversation, and we might have known how a gruff business man turns into a kindly, thoughtful, but reclusive entrepreneur. His businesses thrived after this alteration, but his personal life seemed stuck in an undeveloped state. Our chance to befriend Leonard Oglivie has passed. The picture below was submitted anonymously, handed to us by the mortician at Heavenly Estates, and presumably taken by the friend who arranged for Oglivie's last resting place.

Do you know why Jimmy Gresham was looking at Leonard's grave?

Did Leonard tell you anything the day before he died?

Do you know who Leonard's friend was?

If I have followed the authors' suggestions correctly, then here is my e-mail:

A very true sentiment indeed. We should strive to befriend those around us, to help them or be helped by them, before it is too late.

I was in a small form of contact with Mr. Ogelvie before his passing. I wonder if you could give me any more information about him, his friend, or Heavenly Estates, where he was buried? I would very much appreciate any information I could get. This is in Scotland, correct? I wish I could travel there myself. I would like to see the grave.

I wonder also, what does his tombstone read? I cannot make it out in the image.

Also, does "Jimmy Grasham", "Kiri Lee" or "Belkin" mean anything to you? Thank you for your time.

You can find me here: kelenloth@mail.com

I would also appreciate a higher resolution of the photo, if possible, as some things are difficult to make out.

Was the friend who arranged for the funeral Jimmy Gresham, by any chance?

Is there a website for Heavenly Estates, or an email address perhaps?

I can be contacted at: iluvhorses (at) jetbroadband (dot) com.

So many questions! My dear. Apparently you all had greater concern for Mr. Ogelvie than I ever did. Bravo.

For those asking for a higher resolution image, I have reposted it for you. Not sure why it helps, but alas, I'm unsure of so many things surrounding this incident.

I want you to know that I had to resort to skullduggary to acquire the high res picture. The mortician had passed me an inferior copy and kept the original. Now why would he do that?
All my inquiries as to further information about Oglivie's friend who arranged the funeral were met with scornful laughter. I do not trust this man.
He did tell me I would be better off paying more attention to what was at hand. All I have is that picture. How could that gravesite shot be of help? I find this to be very frustrating.

Thank you, Mrs. Paul, for the high res photo. I appreciate what you went through to get it, for it has helped a great deal in my quest. I hope all is well with you.

Yes, thank you, Mrs. Paul, for the better image!

I would now inquire about this odd mortician. Do you happen to know his name? He seems quite the untrustworthy fellow.

Also, the years on his headstone seem odd. He was a man, was he not? But if I am not mistaken, by these dates, he was recorded to not even have reached the age of 10! (I'm having a bit of trouble reading them. Is that a 2002 or 2007? and the 2009 seems almost a 2000.

Storyteller SilverLoom said...

I too am grateful, Lady of the minor dragons. You seem as baffled as we are, but have you any knowledge why the dates on the headstone read "2007-2009"?

Yes!,
Thanks for the nice picture, I'm srry you had to "resort to skulldugery" as honesty is always the best policy. And I hope you don't get in trouble about it. Thanks again,

Kel, the mortician's name is Archibald Boner. I made inquirier about the headstone, but again came up with very few facts. Mr. Boner said the tombstone was bought and paid for years ago. Only the date of death was chiseled on the day Oglivie died.
Oddly, he has no record of who purchased the headstone. He says the purchase was made before he bought the mortuary.

Did Mr. Olglivie ever mention someone named Kiri Lee?

Precentor said...

It appears to me it read 2007-2000 am I right? Who did the chiseling ? Do you know when "H" estates will be online?

Precentor said...

Do you know who bought the tomestone?

Donita K. Paul said...

I've been investigating, and I had to make it seem that I was out of town. I left, came back disguised as a homeless man, and dug through the trash at the places where Oglivie had been seen. And of course, at the mortuary.
Chris, he never mentioned Kiri Lee, but I did find a scrap of paper with iri le on it.
I found no more information about the tombstone or any of the names mentioned in your inquiries.
I must say that I am never going undercover again as a bum.
Millard, Heavenly Estates is the name of our local cemetery.

Rissa said...

Once again, thank you so much for the information - and doing so much to get it, Mrs. Paul! Perhaps soon we will have answers to all of these questions.

Hi Mrs. Paul,
I'm on the CSFF blog tour looking at The Vanishing Sculptor. I emailed you some questions on Sept. 12, but I guess you didn't get them. Can you stop by my blog and answer them in the comments?

Where is Mr Oglevie buried.Does Jimmy Gresham live near there?

Donita K. Paul said...

Huh? Oglivie is definitely buried in this cemetery. I don't know Jimmy Gresham.

I guess I phrased my question badly. Where is the cemetery? Was what I was trying to ask.

Donita K. Paul said...

This is Heavenly Estates, and it is right outside of town. I can't give you anymore specifics than that. It's a good question, but the answer won't help you on your search.

Precentor said...

Hmm alright, ATM I'm inclined to agree with you;( They seem to not want me to learn about them. *waits*
Thanks for your "help", you've done an excellent job through the whole questioning third degree stuff:P.
I commend you: Donita of the braveheart!

hmmm this is very interesting. I will have to do some research to see if I can figure this mystery out. I am curious as to who Kiri Lee is and why I should ask for her though... hmmm mysteries, mysteries.

Precentor said...

Donita: I can probobly handle this if ya want. I can just repost your threads.

Donita K. Paul said...

okay, I'm confused. Why can't she just scroll through these comments and find her answer? Yes, you can take care of it, Millardthemk

Precentor said...

SHe might be able too idk. I'm not sure what she asking or confused about. But If people have questions I'll answer.
